So far, “The Glass Castle” has been a very intriguing story with many interesting conflicts, characters, and themes. Some conflicts that have been ongoing the entire time include: their father drinking, losing his jobs, and fighting with their mother, and both of the parents participating in illegal things, for example, when their mother encouraged shoplifting and said, “God doesn’t mind you bending the rules a little if you have a good reason”, and then she compares it to “justifiable homicide” (Walls 71). Many other conflicts have come up throughout the story as well, but they have often been resolved in a small amount of time. Also, all of the children have gone through pretty traumatic things in their lives, considering how young they are, including the amount of times that they’ve had to move, which prevents them from ever making close friends. In addition to that, I think that the characters will continue to develop because I believe that the kids will continue to age, and as they grow older parts of their personality will change. I also hope that there will be some development for their father, so that he can become a better dad. As for their mother, if there is any character development on her part I would hope that it would be that she learns how to stand up for herself, especially against their father. There have been many themes so far, such as be grateful for what you have, and stand up for yourself. An example of the kids being grateful for what they have was when they could not afford beds so they had to sleep in boxes, but they called it a “fun adventure” (Walls 32), and they made the most of it. I predict that these themes will continue throughout the rest of the story. As for the plot, it seems to be escalating and then cooling down as problems occur, and I don’t believe that we have hit the climax yet because that will probably occur closer to the end of the story, and it will most likely not be resolved very quickly. I’m excited to see how the rest of the story will turn out!

Be grateful for what you have.
Be Thankful Author: Unknown Poem can be found at this link: https://www.wow4u.com/bethankful/ Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful when you don't know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn. Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow. Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement. Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons. Be thankful when you're tired and weary, because it means you've made a difference. It's easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks. Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings. While doing this project, I have learned so much more about Greek mythology, and a lot about our Greek goddess, Athena. I have also learned a lot about other Greek gods and goddesses from watching the other group’s presentations. My group had made a plan to rehearse our script and make treats to share with the class during our presentation, and we followed through with that plan by spending lots of time practicing, and by baking our “timbits”. One struggle we encountered while baking was that our cake pop sticks were not working out, so we decided to solve that problem by turning our cake pops into balls of cake instead. Also, as I mentioned in my first blog entry, we had a problem with deciding on a slogan, but eventually we chose one that we thought worked well with our theme. We were successful with staying on top of things and managing our time wisely, which was great because we didn’t ever feel like we were behind or not able to finish on time. Overall, I very much enjoyed doing this project, I got to know the people who were in my group, and I learned so much more about Athena, and Greek mythology.
In our work with our election campaign assignment, I am learning many new things, and we’re having lots of successes, but we’re also encountering some problems. Our Greek goddess is Athena, and I have learned so much about her origins, her symbols, and her powers. We started off by splitting up the research, and finding many different sources. I worked on the biography/description, and I discovered multiple new and interesting facts about Athena. For example, she is the daughter of Metis and Zeus. We wrote down all of our research on the same document page and then we put it into script form, focusing on making it into proper paragraphs. After that, we split up the script into equal amounts so that all group members would say the same amount in the presentation. There were struggles when thinking of a slogan, but in the end we decided on “Be wise, choose Athena”, because she is the goddess of wisdom. Also, to make the presentation more enjoyable and as a promotional factor, we had the idea to make cake pops that look like olives, to suit the theme. My group is enjoying this project so far, and I have learned a lot of new information about Greek mythology.
