“The Lost Children” is an intriguing fantasy novel that follows Josephine Russing, and the people she meets as she goes along her adventure. I chose purple for the background of my infographic to represent the mysteriously spooky mood that flows through the entire novel, and I decided to pick a colour scheme of mostly purple, black, and white to add to the suspense and fright that I felt as I read the story. I chose to put the most eye-catching quote in large letters directly under the title, in order to draw people into my infographic right away. Then, I proceeded to split up the topics for my infographic into sections, and added symbols and quotes that went along with those topics. I made a pie chart to show where the characters spent most of their time within the story, but I only included locations in this pie chart because mixing locations with the other aspects of the setting (time, weather, mood/atmosphere) would not be possible for a chart such as this one. I found some great pictures to represent the themes in the novel, and I decided to show the main types of conflicts in the book with an interesting border surrounding them. I also included relevant symbols from my book throughout my infographic such as a tree, a pair of gloves, and clocks that represent the claganmeter, which is an invention that only exists in the story. That’s how I designed my infographic to help it better match the story of “The Lost Children”.
“The Lost Children” is a beautifully written fantasy with an extremely interesting plot, and it is an absolute must-read! It follows the journey of a young girl as she falls into another world, and tries to find her way out. However, when she learns about the difficulties that this new world is facing, she forces herself to stay for longer in order to help everyone. The characters are all very intriguing, and they all have their own problems from their pasts, yet they’re still able to work together to conquer problems like “The Master”. “The Master” is the villain/antagonist of the story, who has been stealing children from the city of “Gulm” for over twenty years, and those children never return home. “The Master” also controls “The Brothers”, who are terrible creatures that feed off of children’s energy. At the end of the story, there is a very unexpected twist that makes us feel like we should rethink the entire plot. Furthermore, if you are a fan of the “Harry Potter” series, you will definitely enjoy this book as they have similar atmospheres. Once we start to read this book, it’s very hard to put it down, and I would rate it a ten out of ten. It’s an incredible novel, and I would highly recommend it for your next summer read!
